Florian - Thanks for the comment. If a campaign contacts to professionals that are going to install and configure CiviCRM, then it essentially becomes a hosted CRM. In which case, they have same benefits and downfalls of having a hosted CRM.

What I mean by "breaks" is that often times users try t do what the software wasn't intended to do. And sometimes hosting problem do occur. Regardless, the campaign will need someone to fix these issues as soon as possible. A developer community is not the best place for that to occur especially with a fundraising deadline looming

Sorry, but I disagree with quite a few points there.
Yes, the setup can take some time - but if you call professionals there can make it ready to go within 24 hours too. Customized feature may not have priority and can be developed later on.

Regarding "just in time patches" I don't know what you're trying to say with "it will break" as civiCRM didn't do that at all. Actually never since I've started using it (the only problems that came up where server sided troubles which are a matter of hosting)

If you consider these two proprietary software products as requirement than I agree. But not every campaign needs these - actually I haven't even heard of them before as haven't been involved with election campaigns...

Talking about customer service I enjoy bringing up my amazing experience with adobe creative suite software. They actually take more time answering the phone and debugging their stupid software (on my computer) that it's less hassle to accept and use as it is.

But you do have a point that CiviCRM is not suited for people without knowledge of technology - but wordpress isn't either ;-)
